Authorities confiscated 89 kilograms of suspected shabu valued at ₱605.2 million during an interdiction operation in Zamboanga City on Sunday, the Police Regional Office 9 (PRO-9) reported Monday.
In an official statement, PRO-9 confirmed that three individuals were arrested during the operation. The suspects are now under the custody of Zamboanga City Police Station 11 while appropriate criminal charges are being prepared.
Police said the seized illegal drugs were immediately turned over to the Zamboanga City Forensic Unit 9 for proper examination and documentation.
PRO-9 director Police Brigadier General Eleazar Matta lauded the operatives involved, emphasizing that the operation demonstrated the regional police’s resolve in dismantling drug syndicates in Western Mindanao.
“These accomplishments highlight PRO-9’s firm commitment to rid the Zamboanga Peninsula of illegal drugs,” Matta said.
He further assured the public that intensified anti-drug campaigns will continue in coordination with other law enforcement agencies to safeguard communities from the proliferation of narcotics.
The recent interdiction forms part of the broader anti-drug strategy implemented under the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) campaign against illegal drugs, which prioritizes interdiction of large-scale drug shipments before they reach distribution channels.
"Authorities have yet to disclose further details about the suspects, including their possible links to known drug groups or smuggling networks operating in the Zamboanga Peninsula and nearby regions. Investigators are also tracing the origin and intended destination of the recovered contraband."
Police officials reiterated their call for community cooperation, urging residents to report suspicious activities that may be connected to illegal drug operations.
