The damaged portion of the Tullahan River dike in Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City, falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the local disaster management office clarified Tuesday.
Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) spokesperson Peachy de Leon said the structure is not a city government project but is managed by the national agency. “That project is under the DPWH, not the Quezon City government,” she explained in an interview with Unang Balita.
Following the incident, both the QCDRRMO and the City Engineering Department immediately inspected the damaged area. However, De Leon emphasized that while the city initiated the checks, the responsibility for repairs rests solely with the DPWH.
“When it happened, the first step was for the DRRMO to conduct an assessment, followed by the city engineering department,” she said. “But upon verification, it was confirmed to be a DPWH project.”
"She further noted that the findings had already been relayed to the national government. “Since the project is theirs, the repair will be handled by the DPWH. The city government will monitor, but the responsibility lies with the national agency,” she added.”
Local authorities assured residents that they will coordinate closely with the DPWH to ensure the structure is repaired as soon as possible, as the dike plays a vital role in flood control for nearby communities.
